The Beijing Olympic Bid Committee’s Wang Wei said in July 2001: “We are confident that the Games coming to China not only promotes our economy, but also enhances all social conditions, including education, health and human rights.”
And Beijing’s Mayor Liu Qi said, in a news story on 14 June 2001: “(The Olympic Games) will help promote all economic and social progress and will also benefit the further development of our human rights cause.”
But last week media reported Wang Wei denying that his country had made any such promises. “I did not promise that China would promise to do whatever with the Games in China, I did not say that,” he said. “I think the Games will open up the horizon about China. People will see better what China is about.”
What is going on.

You had been mislead by your own imagination.
“We are confident that the Games coming to China not only promotes our economy, but also enhances all social conditions, including education, health and human rights.”
The key word is “enhance”. That means some opportunities for exhibition.
“I did not promise that China would promise to do whatever with the Games in China, I did not say that,” he said. “I think the Games will open up the horizon about China. People will see better what China is about.”
Since China has been isolated from the international world, they have never seen such huge group of foreigners. This small extention in view is a giant step of Chinese human right development.
In fact, human right enable individual thinking and view. It will be a total failure with an enforcement by government. Culture exchange is a good starting huge culture exchange is a step further.
we sure did find out what china is about.
